Emotional Pet Therapy

EFT- Emotional Freedom Technique (Tapping)

The healing method known as the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is based on a combination of Mind-Body Medicine and acupuncture principles. Disruptions in the energy system that result from negative emotions can create behavioural problems and/or physical discomfort.

EFT enables the interruptions to be released. Healing on all levels occurs when the negative "charge" associated with a situation or traumatic experience is let go.

EFT can aid in:

  • Negative emotions such as grief, fear, anger, resentment, PTSD, and abandonment should be released.
  • Relieve any discomfort or pain
  • Recover from emotional trauma, such as that caused by neglect/abandonment.
  • Assistance with phobias and fears
  • Assistance for anxiety disorders
  • Positive is always there; when we remove the bad, positive spontaneously emerges.

My first, EFT, behavior success was with our cat Schnizzy. That's her in the Christmas Basket. She was anxious, anti-social and had hypersensitivity issues from the beginning. If we touched her, she would obsessively groom for the next hour, in an attempt to soothe her anxiety. We thought for sure she was going to be bald eventually. She was afraid of every environmental noise, movement or shadow. It appeared at times she was hallucinating; maybe she was? She lived under the bed except to come out and eat. I rescued her and her brother at 3 months of age. I knew they missed out on the social development that comes from normal mothering and interacting with littermates; she never learned to feel safe under normal conditions. Every aspect of her daily life was a potential threat. Was Schnizzy insecure, socially inept, the victim of genetically crossed wires or all of the above? Initially, I treated it as a hormonal imbalance with some success. Not satisfied, I went for it and decided to try EFT.

I did 3 tapping sequences daily for four days, recruiting my son and husband to multiply the intent of the sessions. The change was dramatic in less than 1 week. We thought Schnizzy had been abducted and replaced by another cat. She began to seek out attention and play with us daily. She stopped hiding under the bed and regularly sits on the couch with us for TV time at night. She actually seeks to be petted and stroked, a little, almost daily. Her emotional distress is dramatically reduced. II accepted the fact that I couldn't change her personality. I just wanted her to get some enjoyment from life, so we could enjoy her too.

We love that she spends more time with us. My amazing results are from the Basic Recipe alone. I suspect she will get spooky again from time to time (it's already been 3 months with no relapse), but what a gift to have such a powerful, easy tool.
